Unveiling the TRON Universe's Hidden Secrets: Cillian Murphy's Journey to Sark
Get ready for a fascinating glimpse into the world of TRON, as we uncover some behind-the-scenes revelations that will leave you intrigued!
New concept art from the upcoming TRON: Ares and the never-made TRON: Ascension offers a tantalizing glimpse at Cillian Murphy's potential transformation into the iconic villain Sark, along with some never-before-seen designs for Ares.
Murphy, who made a brief appearance in TRON: Legacy as Edward Dillinger Jr., was originally intended to be the main antagonist in filmmaker Joseph Kosinski's ambitious threequel, TRON: Ascension. However, fate had other plans, and the project evolved into TRON: Ares, directed by Joachim Rønning.
With Murphy's selective project choices, it was clear he wouldn't reprise his role. Thus, the character was reimagined as Julian Dillinger, played by Evan Peters, a grandson of the original TRON antagonist.
But here's where it gets controversial: Julian Dillinger transformed into Sark, the Games Master from the original 1982 TRON. The question arises: is Sark 2.0 now in control of The Grid, or is he still serving another digital force? With no fourth movie on the horizon, these questions may remain unanswered.
Concept artist Phil Saunders, who worked on TRON: Ares, has revealed a fascinating illustration he created to entice Murphy to play Sark. He writes, "One of my first tasks on TRON: Legacy was to illustrate Cillian Murphy as the new Sark. I believe it was an attempt to lure him back as the junior Dillinger. Given his absence, I hope this wasn't the reason he declined!"
Saunders also sheds light on the evolution from TRON: Ascension to TRON: Ares, and how Jared Leto's involvement in the former led to his role in the latter. The designs below, created with Kosinski, offer a glimpse into an alternate TRON reality.
In TRON: Ares, we meet Ares, a highly advanced Program sent from the digital realm to the real world on a perilous mission, marking humanity's first encounter with A.I. beings.
The film stars an impressive ensemble, including Jared Leto, Greta Lee, Evan Peters, and more. It's now available on various digital platforms, offering fans a chance to explore this expanded TRON universe.
