The UK government is fast-tracking £12,000 solar panel grants to help households combat rising energy costs in the wake of the Iran war. This move is expected to boost the adoption of clean technology, with consumer interest in solar and batteries skyrocketing since the conflict began. The clean tech industry welcomes the plan, anticipating increased uptake of their products. However, the government is facing pressure to include salary sacrifice schemes in the funding, which would allow people to pay for solar panels and batteries through tax-saving arrangements, similar to those used for electric vehicles. While the government is considering this request, no current plans for salary sacrifice have been announced. The Warm Homes Plan, backed by £5bn and £2bn in government funding, is a significant step towards a greener, more energy-secure future for the UK, with potential savings of up to £800 per year for households adopting solar power and battery storage.
